We've done our best to create a Web site that anticipates and satisfies our customers' needs. With that goal in mind, we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you do not find an answer to your question here, contact Ken at (919)740-0004 or contact us using the form on the Contact page.

Do you give free estimates for the design work?
Yes. We do give free estimates for our designs after we meet on site to discuss the scope of the project.

What is the average cost of a landscape design?
Design services start at $70 per hour. Factors which determine the cost may be the complexity of the planting plan, amount of hardscape elements, and overall size of the property. The average plan usually requires 12 to 15 hours.

What is the process?
We will come and meet with you at your home and we will walk and discuss your needs and visions and address any challenges your landscape may present. Following our discussion, we will provide an estimate for the design work, and if agreeable, accept a deposit and complete a site analysis. We will then provide three different conceptual design sketches offering alternative solutions for the project. We will meet to discuss the sketches and from that discussion, the elements of the final plan will be determined.

What design elements will you consider?
There are many design elements to consider: lawns, shrub and tree selection, driveway placement, water features, retaining walls, drainage and grading, swimming pools and spas, patios, decks, walkways, lighting, irrigation, pergolas, arbors, and fences to name a few. The list goes on, and we will consider all these factors into the design.

Do you provide free estimates for installation work?
No and yes. Our company is not set up to offer estimates for general landscape work not accompanied by a landscape plan. However, if you have a landscape plan from a designer and need someone to provide an estimate, we can work with our installation contractors to get you an estimate.

What can I expect as the final product?
We will provide you three copies of the final plan; generally they are on 24" x 36" paper. These plans will be scaled and labeled with all information necessary to install yourself or turn over to a professional for estimating and/or installation. They are also appropriate for submission to an architectural review board if necessary. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide plans in electronic form at this time.

What information do you need from me in order to get started?
We need any thoughts or ideas that you have to help us understand what type of landscape you desire. Think about the function of the space or other landscapes you have seen. Pictures from magazines, books, or the internet are good idea sources. Let us know any plants that are "must haves" or those you would prefer not to have. We recommend research into the rules for your neighborhood to find out if there are any limitations concerning structures or plant material. Also, a copy of the property survey is an invaluable piece of information.

How long does the design process take?
The entire design process may take from 2-8 weeks. There are many variables involved including time of year, size of the project, your availability to meet, or the progress of new construction, just to name a few. Our busiest times of the year are spring and fall, so if you contact us in winter and summer, the process will take less time.
